Aerodynamic Consultancy allows to quantify the parameters related to the different energy losses while pedaling, with the aim of minimizing the frontal area and aerodynamic drag. Real time, on-road conditions are tested.

BIOMECHANICAL STUDY

During this protocol, a series of positional interventions, modifications in the configuration and dimension of components, among other changes, will be carried out. As such, the athlete must first conduct a Biomechanical Study at our facilities, before contemplating Aerodynamic Consulting. This way we can assure that the necessary changes are based on the methodology and procedures implemented by us.

BODY COMPOSITION

The first stage consists of measuring Weight, Muscle Perimeters and 9 Skinfolds, in order to estimate the Percentages of Fat Mass and Lean Mass. Muscle Size is directly related to the Frontal Area exposed to the wind, one of the most relevant metrics for Aerodynamic Optimization. A projection for a given time-frame, for potential optimization of these parameters is also provided.

ROAD TESTing

Wind Tunnels and Velodromes are completely controlled environments, with immense restrictions and limitations. Only by testing on the road is possible to truly analyze the biomechanics, movement patterns, body dynamics, the influence of road roughness, turbulent air flow, the impact of atmospheric variables and the effects of wind speed and direction on the athlete's performance.

PROTOCOL

It consists on the execution of a series of efforts carried out at a pre-defined intensity or speed, on a section of road closed to the traffic, in a straight line, with approx. 400 to 800 meters. Each test comprises approximately 3 to 5 out-and-back tests (depending on the convergence of the data) on the aforementioned road segment.

POSITIONAL INTERVENTIONS

Since the position adopted by the athlete on the bike accounts for approx. 75 to 85% of the final Aerodynamic Drag, most of the tests that are conducted involve the modification and adoption of different positions, until a configuration that allows minimizing energy expenditure is attained.

EQUIPMENT & COMPONENT

It is possible to carry out Turbulence and Viscosity Analysis, Transition Flow and Surface Friction and Separation and Vorticity of different types of Time Trial or Triathlon suits, shoes, overshoes, socks, helmets, etc., thus providing an informed decision about which materials, textiles and equipment result the fastest for the athlete.

The proprietary algorithms coded on the AEROPRO sensor demonstrate remarkable versatility, providing unmatched precision, allowing athletes and engineers to gain a better understanding of all the variables that influence Aerodynamics.

Inspection of the Ground Surface (Temperature, Roughness and Propagation of Vibrations), the Study of Tire Pressure (Impedance Losses, Break-Point Pressure and Casing Losses), and the integration of the Wheel + Tire + Inner Tubes setup allow to isolate and optimize the Rolling Resistance Coefficient.

AERODynamic optimization

The extreme sensitivity and data sampling and acquisition rates of the AEROPRO sensor allows it to capture microscopic disturbances in the system, making it a unique tool, regarding the granularity of changes that were previously considered impossible to quantify. Once the entire process is complete, it is possible to design and articulate race pacing strategies.
